About Self Insurance Services

Self Insurance Services, LLC, SIS is one of the largest and oldest firms in Virginia that provides workers’ compensation group self-insurance administration. Self Insurance Services was established in 1981, with offices located in Richmond, VA. SIS manages numerous Associations, and only selected independent insurance agencies have access to these programs. Travis Miller is the President and has over 25 years experience in healthcare and managing workers’ compensation claims. There is a full-time staff retained for their unique expertise.
In its role as Administrator, Self Insurance Services performs many functions:
- Overseeing the marketing of the Association and proposal presentations
- Monitoring the performance of the claims and loss control service companies
- Monitoring the investments made by the banking/investment institutions
- Placement of specific and aggregate excess insurance, bonds and any other necessary coverage
- New member underwriting and on-going re-underwriting
- Experience modification calculations
- Contribution (premium) billing and collections
- Payroll audit calculations
- Participation in Association meetings
- Preparing exhibits and attending trade association conventions
- Monthly distribution of Association financial statements and member loss runs
- Maintain equity schedule by member, by fund year for all groups
- Work closely with the Virginia Bureau of Insurance in accordance with Regulation 16

Meet Our President
Travis Miller assumed the role of President in January, 2022. Previously, he has worked in the health care industry and managed workers’ compensation claims for over 25 years. He holds a BSBA from University of Richmond with a degree in Accounting and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business with a concentration in Health Sector Management. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. Travis lives in Richmond, VA with his wife, Beth, and two daughters, Abby & Lauren.
